sometimes rare magic is not helpful, wonderous or carefully cast by devoted hands and hearts.

sometimes it comes out of some unknowable of pocket of the world, organic and inescapable, diabolical as any hex cast by a master of the dark arts.

it creeps in and fosters itself in a host, growing, spreading, invading, and ultimately strangling.

there is no reason, nor can it be reasoned with. it sent no harbinger to herald its coming. it just arrived and went to work, masterless, unthinking, unfeeling and carrying cruelty with it unbound by the confines of intent.

it is infinite.

unknowable.

unstoppable.

i made this piece to describe the way some illnesses just come out of nowhere, take hold and make people sick without any reason or explanation. especially rare diseases that take forever to diagnose because the doctors don't think that it could be those illnesses because... they're rare. as a result, diagnosis (and treatment) often comes after irreversible damage has been done.

there's also very little money in this field, probably because it's not seen as comparatively lucrative.
